The Legion of Mary (Latin: Legio Mariae) is an association founded by Br.  Frank Duff and a group of Catholic women as well as Father Michael Toher in Dublin, Ireland and is established on September 7, 1921. 

Legio Mariae’s purpose is to help Catholics to fulfill their baptismal promises.  Members devote their time and prayer for the intentions of Mary, Mother of God.

A presidium is made of two types of members:  auxiliary (praying) and active. The auxiliary members pray the whole booklet of Legion prayers, the Tessera, every day for the prosperity of the society and the Church. Active members pray daily the prayer of the Legion, the Catena Legionis.  Their main role lies in active apostolate for the Legion and the Church.  They attend weekly meetings in their parishes (about 1hr 30min on a Sunday after Mass) and commit to two hours of stewardship per week.

Active members visit the sick in hospitals.  They also visit the sick as well as the elders in nursing homes and at residences, despite of ethnicity and religion.

 Currently, our presidium has 175 auxiliary members and 11 active members.
